1 GW PV + 1 GW / 4 GWh BESS Energy Park in

Arizona, USA

A gigawatt of solar and a gigawatt of storage in a four-zone energy park. The four hours of storage re-times the plant — moving a large share of the day's generation into the evening ramp, when Arizona's demand peaks and the sun has already gone.

Land runs around nine thousand acres, interconnection is at extra-high voltage transmission level, and the build is phased across years while module and battery technology moves underneath the design. The plant's output is a scheduling challenge as much as an engineering one.

Arizona experiences among the best irradiance anywhere, but so is the ambient temperature — high cell heat give back part of what the sun delivers, and battery thermal management becomes a real techno-economic cost line. Sunforest's scope included terrain and buildable area analysis, development engineering, plant layout, shading, system simulation, and interconnection and transmission advisory.
